About the types of taps, how many types of taps are there, where they are used,

Friends, in today’s post, the types of tap have been told, if you want to get information, then read the post completely.

1. Hand Tap

The bangles are cut by running this tap by hand. Its shank is square, a handle is used to rotate the tap by hand.

In which there are handles on both sides and in the middle there is a square groove (fixed or adjustable). Different tap sets are made for different types of bangles; Like- Metric, B.S.W. e.t.c.

Tap

There are three taps in the set of hand taps for a certain type of bangle.

Tap Angle

(a.) taper tap

This is the first tap most commonly used when cutting bangles by hand. In ISI it is called Rafter Tap. Some of its end teeth (8 or 10) are rubbed and taper.
Its taper lead is 4°. Its end diameter is called point diameter. It is smaller than the diameter of the hole in which the bangles are to be cut.
In this way easily it can cut the bangles by going into the hole. One bangle after another increases the depth and also cuts new bangle.
Thus the entire tap enters the hole. The tap is taken out by turning it anticlockwise, after which the second and third taps are also run.

(b.)Intermediate Tap

This is the second tap of the hand tap set. It is operated by first tap after cutting the rough thread. Its also 3-5 bangles are taper from the front. Its taper lead is 10°. This tap makes the right size threads, but the front bangle in the blind (closed) hole is not able to make the right size, so it becomes necessary to run the third finishing tap also.

(c.)finishing tap

It is also called plug tap or bottoming tap. Only one or two bangles ahead of it are in taper. Its use is required only in the blind holes after running the second tap. It has a taper lead of 20°, so it can bangle up to the bottom of the hole.

Finishing Tap

2.Machine Tap

These taps are used on a tapping machine similar to a drill machine. In these machines the spindle automatically rotates in the reverse direction after a certain speed. These taps are tapped in such a way that the finish thread can be prepared in a single operation. They are also used on automatic lathe machines.

(a.)spiral fluted tap

The flutes in this tap are spiral rather than straight. It is used for tapping into such holes. In which the spline is cut. Due to having a spline groove, these splines do not get caught in the ‘spline key way’, also known as hole tap. They are used for cutting bangles in soft metals like brass, copper, aluminum.

(b.)Gun or Spiral Point Tap

The front 3-4 threads of this tap taper. A special rake angle is formed on the bangles ahead of this. This increases its cutting power.
It is used in mass production. This is done by putting it in the machine to make a hole through it. A free space is kept under this type of tap to remove the shavings. This reduces the risk of tap breakage and prevents cracking of the shavings.

(c.)stub flute tap

These taps are a type of forming tools. They do not require a cutting edge, so flutes are not made. They are used to roll soft metals to form bangles; For example, cutting bangles in tin boxes etc.

(d.)thread forming tap

Where the shavings cannot be removed easily, a thread forming tap is used. In this type of tap, the bangles are cut by the displacement action of the material, so that no shavings are formed during the process. This gives good finishing. This type of tap is used for cutting metals like brass, copper, aluminum etc.

3.Master Tap

These taps are used for making threading dies or for making gauges. In these, more number of flutes are made to increase the cutting edge. These flutes are 6 to 10. Very accurate and refined threads are cut by this.

4.Extension Tap

The shank of such taps is made in longer length as per the requirement of the work. It is used in such places, where tapping is required to a greater depth; For example, tapping for a bolt in the hub of a pulley, etc.

extension tap

5.Band Shank Tap

The shank of this tap is long and bent into an L (‘L’) shape. It does not require a separate handle. The bent shank is used as a handle.

Bend Shank Tap

6.Machine Screw Tap

These are small type hand taps, on which the number is written according to the screw. The size of (0) number tap is 0.6″ and size of 12 number is 0.126″. Generally only taps up to 12 numbers are used.

7.Gas Tap

The body of this tap is straight or taper. It is used for fitting of gas pipes.

Gas Tap

8.Nut Tap

The shank of this tap is as long as the extension tap and the point in front of the body is conical. It is used to cut the threads by holding the nut in a threading machine or a drill machine.

9.Standard Taper Pipe Tap

This tap has threads cut across the body at 3″/4 taper per foot. Due to this the joint of the pipe is firmly joined and the gas either The possibility of leakage of liquid is eliminated.

10.Fluteless Tap

These stubs are similar to flute taps, these taps are a type of forming tools. They do not require a cutting edge, so flutes are not formed. These are used to roll soft metals to form bangles; For example, cutting bangles in tin boxes etc.
