Mahadevi Verma was awarded the honorary degree of D Litt by Vikram, Delhi and Kumaon University. The Government of India decorated him with the Padma Bhushan. He was awarded the Bharatiya Jnanpith Award for his Yama work. In view of his literary services, the Uttar Pradesh government also nominated him as a member of the Legislative Council.
