Hello friends, in this article we will know what are the advantages of Star and Delta connected system? What are the benefits of Delta Connected Systems? And what are the benefits of star connected system? You will learn about many facts related to it.

In 3-phase system, alternator Can be star or delta connected. Similarly, 3-phase loads can be star or delta connected. It is desirable to list the advantages of Star and Delta connected system.

Star Connection | Star Connection

  • In Star Connection, Phase voltage Vph = VL / 3 Since the induced e.m.f. Directly proportional to the number of turns in the phase winding of an alternator, a star connected alternator will require a smaller number of turns than a delta-connected alternator for the same line voltage.
  • For the same line voltage, a star-connected alternator requires less insulation than a delta-connected alternator. For the above two reasons, 3-phase alternators are usually star-connected. One can hardly find a delta-connected alternator.
  • In star connection, we can get 3-phase, 4-wire system. This allows the use of two volt epochs, phase voltage as well as line voltage. Remember that the connection in the star, VL = 3 Eph Single phase loads (eg lights etc.) can be connected between any line and neutral wire whereas 3-phase loads (eg 3-phase motors) can be placed across three lines. Such flexibility is not available in the A-connection.
  • In star connection, the neutral point can be earthed. There are many benefits from such a remedy. For example, in the case of a line to earth fault, the insulator is set to 1/√3 (ie 57.7% of the line voltage. In addition, protective devices (such as relays) are to be used to protect the system in case of a ground fault. Earthing of neutral permits.

Delta Connection | Delta connection

  • This type of connection is best suited for rotary converters.
  • Most 3-phase loads are delta-connected rather than y-connected. One reason for this, at least in the case of unbalanced loads, is that flexibility can be added or removed with loads in the same face. This is difficult (or impossible) to do with a Y-connected, 3-wire load.
  • Most 3-phase induction motors are delta-connected.
