Hello friends, in this article we will know what is a water turbine? And what are the types of water turbines? And what are the characteristics of water turbine? You will know many facts related to this.
water pressure or kinetic of water energy The machine that converts energy into mechanical energy is called a water turbine.
Classification of turbine
- Impulse turbine or Pelton Wheel
- Reaction turbine or Francis and Kaplan turbine
In an impulse turbine, a jet of water falls on the blades and the turbine starts moving with the impulse of water.
In a reaction turbine, the blades move due to the pressure difference on either side. Or it can be of any type Radial or Axial.
Characteristics of turbine
The main characteristic of a turbine is its specific speed, its definition is as follows –
The speed of a geometrically similar turbine, which delivers unit power at the unit head, is called specific speed. Specific Speed in British Unit (N)s) has the following formula –
Ns = (N√HP)/H5/4 rpm
Here, N = Rotational speed in rpm
HP = Horse power of Wheel
H = Head of Water in meter
If the power is displayed in kilowatts, then the above formula will be as follows –
Ns = (1.165 N√kW)/H5/4 rpm
