What is Rope Drive?

A drive in which rope is used to transmit power is called Rope Drive it is said.

It is a device that is used to transmit power over a long distance. in rope drive ‘V’ belt like on a pulley ‘V’ Slot It is made in which the rope is wrapped.

The grooves in any pulley are made according to the weight of the machine and the grooves in the rope drive are angle 45° it happens.

The main advantage of rope drive is that multiple drives are achieved by a single driver pulley.

There are two types of rope drive-

1.Fiber Rope

2.wire rope

Wire rope usage approx. 150 meters Used to transmit power over a distance. Wire rope is made by twisting a strand of cable wire in the opposite direction. Wire ropes are of the following types-

(i)Leng Lay Rope

This type of rope is made by rotating the wire strand in the direction of the rope i.e. clockwise.

(ii) Regular lay rope

This type of rope is made by twisting the wire strand in the opposite direction i.e. anticlockwise.

(iii) Combined Lay Rope

This type of rope is made by twisting the wire strand sometimes in the direction of the rope and sometimes in the opposite direction.
