What is the principle of flotation?

Principle of Floatation It says that when an object or body flows on a liquid, the force acting on the object or body buoyant force is equal to the weight of the object.

The displaced volume of the fluid is equal to the volume of the object immersed in the fluid. When the weight of the object is greater than the upward buoyancy, the object will sink in the liquid. When the weight of the object is equal to the upward buoyancy, the object becomes balanced so that the object floats.

Archimedes says that all objects that are placed in a liquid, then the objects experience an upward force that allows the object to float, and this displaces water with a weight equal to the object’s weight . This upward force acting on the object is known as the buoyant force and the law is known as the law of buoyancy. The law of flotation is an application of Archimedes’ principle.

So, Principle of Floatation states that when a body with its volume partially floats above a liquid surface, the amount of liquid displaced by the body is equal to the volume of the submerged part of the body. Since the body is in equilibrium, the buoyant force on the body must be equal to its weight.
